- I often say that “the hard part about software is that it is soft.” As a practitioner of Enterprise Custom Application Software (ECAS), I have been striving to crack its secret code: its unique nature, unique people that design and develop it, and unique tools and processes to make it happen effectively, efficiently, predictably and consistently. One hop of glory usually does not count. There are many tricks and shortcuts to make software function for the time being, only prove later that it is either a start of a big hairball or a part of it. A long shelf life software is a true test of the true capability of an IT shop – obviously any enterprise will need it if they want to stay in business and be competitive.
